Field Service

HighPoint Power Systems provides turn-key solutions to customers dealing with problematic transformers.  We are partnered with Delta Star Field Service, able to remove, source, install, or repair any transformer component under request.   Please see a list of common services and the request form below.

Transformer Assembly

Components such as bushings, radiators, fans, gauges, and monitoring systems are installed and connected. After mechanical assembly, electrical connections are made, including high-voltage and low-voltage terminals, grounding, and control wiring. The transformer is then filled with insulating oil, if applicable, and tested for leaks. Comprehensive electrical testing, including insulation resistance, turns ratio, and power factor tests, is performed to verify integrity. Finally, the transformer is energized, monitored, and commissioned to ensure it meets operational specifications.

Vacuum Oil Filling

Vacuum oil filling removes air and moisture from a transformer by creating a vacuum before introducing filtered, degassed oil. This ensures proper insulation and reliable operation.

Transformer Testing

Insulation Resistance Test
Measures insulation quality using a megohmmeter to ensure proper insulation between windings and ground.

Ratio Test
Confirms the turns ratio between primary and secondary windings, ensuring correct voltage transformation.

Winding Resistance Test
Checks for uniformity and correctness of winding resistance, detecting issues like loose connections or damaged conductors.

Leakage Test
Inspects for oil or gas leaks to maintain insulation integrity and cooling efficiency.

Dielectric Tests (Applied Voltage Test)
Verifies insulation strength against high voltage to ensure safe operation.

Partial Discharge Test
Detects insulation defects by measuring discharge activity, identifying areas

prone to failure.

Tan Delta (Power Factor) Test
Evaluates insulation condition by measuring dielectric losses, indicating moisture or deterioration.

Magnetic Balance Test
Checks for core issues and imbalance in three-phase transformers, ensuring proper magnetic flux distribution.

Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA)
Diagnoses mechanical integrity and structural shifts by analyzing the frequency response of the transformer.

Oil Processing

Oil processing in the field involves filtering, degassing, dehydrating, and circulating insulating oil to enhance dielectric strength and cooling. The oil is filtered to remove particulates, degassed to eliminate air, and dehydrated to reduce moisture. It's then circulated under vacuum to prevent air entrapment. Dielectric tests confirm insulation quality before commissioning.

Oil Retrofilling

Oil retrofilling involves draining existing insulating oil from a transformer and replacing it with new or upgraded oil. The process includes filtering, degassing, and dehydrating the new oil before introduction. It’s circulated under vacuum to prevent air entrapment and improve insulation. Dielectric tests are performed afterward to verify performance.

Leak Repairs

Repair the main tank, radiators, peripheral devices, LTC, piping, gaskets, to address leaks and ensure longevity.

Refurbishment

Inspecting, cleaning, repairing, or replacing components like bushings, gaskets, and cooling systems. It includes oil processing or retrofilling, rewinding or drying windings, and upgrading protective devices. Electrical tests are performed to confirm reliability before recommissioning.

Sourcing Parts & Installation

We're able to source and install transformer specific parts such as high-voltage bushings, fans, gauges, radiators, oil, controllers, and monitors.
